Beyond 20/20 Releases Professional Browser and Publisher's Edition 7.1

Beyond 20/20 Inc is pleased to announce the availability of Beyond 20/20  Professional Browser and Publisher's Edition 7.1.

This release (7.1) is now available for download for existing customers.  Please continue to read for a list of functionality.

The Professional Browser 7.1 includes the following features:

  • Works with files larger than 2 GB
  • Supports 64-bit operating systems
  • Runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Can be run from the network.
  • Improved Open and Save dialog boxes for Windows 7.
  • Each user now has their own preferences, rather than a single shared b2020.ini for the entire computer.
  • The Browser now runs without requiring any registry changes or any DLLs to be installed and registered.
  • Saving as CSV now uses regional settings for separators.

The following problem areas have been addressed for this release:

  • Sorting data from the dimension view
  • Sorting timeseries
  • Searching for tables
  • Saving foreign characters to XML
  • Saving profiles
  • Saving the view in IVT and Worksheets
  • Printing
  • Error reporting and usability

The Publisher's Edition 7.1 includes the following features:

  • Input data

The Publisher's Edition now includes support for a wider range of input data formats.

    • Data can now be loaded directly from CSV (comma-separated values) files. Previously, users would have had to convert CSV files to fixed width prior to loading the information into the Publisher's Edition.
    • The Publisher's Edition now includes support for UTF-8 and UTF-16 (both little-endian and big-endian encodings) source files.
    • Item codes wider than 16 characters in input data are now much more easily handled.
    • Source field names that are wider than item or dimension names are now automatically handled.
    • Dimension definition files can now be re-used by multiple fields.

  • Processing

    • Performance when building tables with large dimensions has been significantly improved.
    • Improved handling of field treatments.
    • More powerful User Defined fields allow a mix of run-time and constant elements.
    • Users are now able to add new codes to the lookup field during processing.

  • Intermediate and Output Files

    • The Publisher's Edition can now build files up to 4 gigabytes in size, provided that the data is still within the other limits of the IVT file structure (number of dimensions, total items, etc).
    • Saving as CSV now uses regional settings to determine the correct character to use as the separator.
    • Auto-generating dimension definition files from source files now includes support for wide fields.

  • Windows 7 Support

    • Publisher's Edition is now fully supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, including 64-bit variations. This includes use of the more modern load/save dialog boxes that are part of Windows 7.

  • Packaging Changes

Beyond 20/20's Publisher's Edition contains the same great functionality that it always had, but has been packaged differently:

    • Build automation: Previously, our clients would need to purchase the Toolkit, a separate product, in order to fully automate the building of IVT files. This release of the Visual Builder can be run completely via a command-line interface without any interaction, thus allowing the build to be fully automated.
    • Loading footnotes: The footnote loader, used for automated loading of large volumes of footnotes, is now fully integrated within the Visual Builder application. There is no longer a separate application for doing this.
    • Distribution: The Distributor and Publication Browser applications are no longer necessary and have been removed from the package.
    • Professional Browser: One copy of Professional Browser is still included in your license for the Publisher's Edition, but it is not included in the installation program. This allows you to run the Professional Browser on a separate workstation.
    • Documentation: All documents are now available in PDF format, and they can all be accessed from the Start menu.
