Beyond 20/20 Releases Web Data Server Version 7.2!
The beginning of December saw the release of Beyond 20/20s version of Web Data Server (WDS) 7.2. The enhancements made to this version were based on feedback from our product users. We are sure that you will be as excited about the changes as we are!
CLIENT SIDE ENHANCEMENTS – optional features include:
Content Syndication (Really Simple Syndication or “RSS”) - Content syndication is a means of informing users when WDS reports have been published or updated. It can be used in the following ways:
- To populate a list of new reports on the News Page of WDS
- To be used by an RSS aggregator to inform that the WDS site has been updated
- Frequency of files to be generated will depend on how often you update the reports on your site – the date is determined in the WDS Manger
To enable this feature, go into the WDS Manager, click on the “content syndication” button and click on the “generate files” tab.
Dundas Charting - A new charting package provides increased flexibility for users and publishers. Charting types include:
- Pie / 3D pie
- Bar / 3D bar / Stacked bar

"Whole word" searching on the optional “Advanced Search” page allows users to find only one form of a word, such as "Can" but not "Canada."
ADMINISTRATOR/PUBLISHER SIDE ENHANCEMENTS:

Now Macintosh users running Netscape browser, version 7.2, can access WDS sites.
Publish more document types
By default you can publish and view any of the following file types in WDS: IVT, PDF, XLS, DOC, TXT, PPT, and HTML. (Users may require a viewer for some file types, such as Adobe Reader). Non-IVT files such as PDFs can be published in a single language if desired.
Sortable fields within the Manager
Reports can be sorted separately for each language, allowing lists to be alphabetized correctly. Sort by any field in WDS Manager, including user or group, date report created, and date report last used.
IVT Author as Source
If desired, reads the Author field from an IVT and uses it for Source Info.
Improved command-line publishing
Now supports batch publishing with wildcards, publishing from an input file, deleting files with or without prompting, and single-language publishing.
New user account functionality
- Option to disallow log-in, saving reports, and saving profiles, creates a "public" site.

Publishers can choose the default chart type as well as which chart types to make available to end-users.
