Statistics Canada Extends the Long Term Use of Beyond 20/20 Software Products

Beyond 20/20 continues to be the preferred software by statistical agencies for their present and future data dissemination needs.

Ottawa, Canada - April 17, 2001 – Statistics Canada has confirmed a contract extension with Beyond 20/20 Inc., continuing and extending the long term use of Beyond 20/20 software products for external dissemination projects, as well as for internal use of Beyond 20/20 in defined areas.

"Beyond 20/20 is part of some great successes stories at Statistics Canada; and overall, Beyond 20/20's uptake in the past years has been beyond I think everybody's expectations. Even with these successes, some of their current initiatives represent great opportunities for Beyond 20/20; there are significant opportunities for more great things, continued growth in Beyond 20/20 usage, and new productivity gains for Statistics Canada." says Jean Carr, Beyond 20/20 Vice President.

About Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada is the country's national statistical agency, with programs organized into three broad subject matter areas: demographic and social, socio-economic and economic. Under the Statistics Act, Statistics Canada is required to collect, compile, analyze, abstract and publish statistical information on virtually every aspect of the nation's society and economy.

Each year, the Agency sells about 1.2 million publications, receives 1.3 million data requests and answers over 400,000 telephone inquiries. Statistics Canada is divided into about 60 divisions, each of which is responsible for a particular activity in the collection, processing or dissemination of statistics. These divisions are grouped together into six fields -- each of which report to the Chief Statistician of Canada.

Statistics are collected from different sources and in different ways. Statistics Canada data are generally produced from surveys but can also be generated as a by-product of administrative activities (import and export data, for example, can be obtained from custom forms).
