Statistics New Zealand Selects Beyond 20/20 To Create Internet-Tool for Customized Analysis of 2001 Population and Dwelling Census Data

Ottawa, Canada - July 19, 2001 – Beyond 20/20 Inc., a data analysis and visualization software company, today announced that Statistics New Zealand has chosen the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server to provide its clients and users with customized, dynamic access to the 2001 Census data through an Internet browser. Statistics New Zealand is the newest addition to Beyond 20/20's customer list of statistics agencies that includes the US Census Bureau, STAT-USA, Statistics Canada, France's INSEE, and the central statistics offices of Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and other countries around the world. As Beyond 20/20's first customer in the Asia-Pacific region, working with Statistics New Zealand is an international milestone for the company.

"Our goal for the release of the 2001 New Zealand Census data is to enhance the range of data available for the general public, educational institutions, government departments and corporate clients. Beyond 20/20's products help us to move from offering static, predefined tables to becoming a dynamic resource where users can service their own data requirements," said David Archer, Statistics New Zealand's Manager of Business Development. "Using the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server, we enhance the use of Census output by allowing all users to more effectively choose and use the data which best suits their needs."

New Zealand's latest Population and Dwelling Census took place in March of 2001. The final results will be available from Statistics New Zealand in December 2001. After a preliminary trial with the 1996 Census data in fall 2001, the database of Census 2001 results will be accessible over the Internet in early 2002. In addition, a reduced range of traditional Census publications will continue to be available in print form or will be downloadable from Statistics New Zealand's web site. The use of CD-ROM was a very important part of releasing 1996 Census results. Beyond 20/20's Web Data Server will replace the need for CD-ROM products for the 2001 census.

"We are pleased that Statistics New Zealand has chosen the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server for Internet-based information outreach of their 2001 Population and Dwelling Census," said Jean Carr, Vice President, Beyond 20/20. "The web-based strategy means more data selection and combination options for Statistics New Zealand clients and users. It's a smart and effective way to use the Internet as a tool to increase the content value for clients and users."

Beyond 20/20's data analysis and visualization products for business and organizational data enable easy data conversion to commonly used spreadsheets and statistical software formats including Excel, SAS and SPSS. Going beyond static formats such as PDF and HTML, Beyond 20/20 provides dynamic access to complex data through tabular presentations, charts and maps.

Statistics agencies, market research firms and businesses use Beyond 20/20 because it significantly reduces time for getting data into the user's hands, and reduces costs for software deployment, maintenance, and support. Many companies around the world use Beyond 20/20 powered data products, including large corporations such as Dupont, Shell, Royal Bank, and Moody's Investors. Over 500,000 copies of Beyond 20/20 Browsers have been licensed for use in over 40 countries.
