2005
Data Released from OSFI
Beyond 20/20 provides access to a comprehensive database
compiled from statutory returns filed with the Office of
the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) by the
companies under its supervision. Annual and/or interim data
is available for both Canadian and foreign life companies,
fraternal benefit societies, and property and casualty companies
and can be purchased by statement year.
The 2005 information packages are now available. To obtain
a 2005 order form, email Beyond 20/20 at info@beyond2020.com.
Beginning this year, information is now also available
in a text file format that provides limited data manipulation
capabilities. Users can access these files by clicking on
English (http://data.beyond2020.com/osfi/osfi_en.htm) or
French (http://data.beyond2020.com/osfi/osfi_fr.htm) to
retrieve data from the respective sites. While the data is available at no cost,
self registration is required. The information spans from 2000 to the present
and is organized by folder for each specific period. Text file format is particularly
useful for anyone who imports data into their own systems for analysis purposes.
The Vista solution is particularly well suited to handling
the sheer volume and complexity inherent in such multidimensional
and hierarchical data settings. Because of Vista 's clever
use of OLAP technology, there is virtually no limit to the
size of dimensions available.
As STAT-USA continues to add to its trade data offerings, they have peace of
mind knowing their Vista solution can easily grow with them, capable of handling
additional volumes and increased data complexity.

20/20 Web Data Server Technical Tip - Searching
in WDS
When using the search capability in WDS, users can enter
a search string to return a list of reports whose contents
are filtered on the items contained within the search box.
For example, if a user wants to see all reports that contain
information about females living in Ontario for the year
2000 , they can search on the
text string female Ontario 2000 and
receive a list of all reports that contain those items. When they open
the resulting reports, they will automatically be filtered on the Gender dimension
for female , on the Region dimension for Ontario and
on the Time dimension for 2000.
