Year 2002, a Great Beginning for Everyone

UNCTAD opens the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server based Web site to the public.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations General Assembly. Its goal is to maximize the trade, development, and investment opportunities of developing countries by helping them face the challenges of globalization. UNCTAD acts as a guardian of the world's development conscience by helping developing nations integrate their economies into the world economy on an equitable basis.

The data available to the public on the UNCTAD site provides a comprehensive collection of statistical data relevant to the analysis of world trade, investment and development.

Visit this site and see how Beyond 20/20 can make a difference for your organization.

Technical Breakthroughs in the New Year

Beyond 20/20 Perspective Beta Available to Beyond 20/20 Clients

Beyond 20/20 Perspective, a new product from Beyond 20/20 Inc., extends beyond aggregated data analysis, sharing and visualization to encompass new record level query capabilities. Beyond 20/20 Perspective allows users to explore and analyze summary level data and then drill into particular points of interest to expose the details held within record level data. Users can also add fields and filter record level data.

Participation in the Beyond 20/20 Perspective Beta program is free to all existing customers; we will ask beta customers to suggest what additional features would be of priority to them, so that we may consider their inclusion in a commercial product release expected later in the spring of 2002.

If you are interested in trying the Beyond 20/20 Perspective beta and giving us some feedback, please contact your account representative.

Announcing Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server Version 6.0

Beyond 20/20 released the Web Data Server 6.0 at the end of December. Following are the new features of this version:

Choose Your Database - No longer limited to using MS Access to store report definitions and user information. Now choose from SQL Server, Oracle or databases using Jet engine.

Microsoft Windows Database Users - Incorporate user information from your MS Windows database. Set the authentication method to Basic or NT challenge response.

New Report Folders and Front End Searching - Administrators can create, name and organize folders in this familiar explorer-style folders system. Users can save and organize their own report views and easily locate reports searching by report name. Selecting a report brings the user directly to the report view.

Greater Administrative Report Options - Administrators can copy a report to several folders or several users and share a report within a particular user account. Sharing allows the administrator to put the same report in several folders and when that report is changed, all shared copies will also be updated.

Share Reports - In addition to the administrator copying a user's report to a second user, users themselves can share a report or chart by copying and pasting (or dragging and dropping) it from the printable version view to Microsoft Word and from Word to PowerPoint. Alternatively, users can save a static report as HTML from the printable version view and send it via e-mail.

Improved User Interface - Refreshed menus and updated look to reflect enhanced functionality.

Enhanced Select All - New auto-addition of new items in updated reports when select all is chosen for the report view.

Other Improvements:

  • Log out functionality (not applicable to accounts based on MS Windows User Database).
  • Added visualization through horizontal bar charts.
  • Downloading of report names to Excel.
  • Automated process of producing additional Web Data Server user sites.
  • WDS can now run on a cluster of servers.

Available this Month, Beyond 20/20 Toolkit Version 6.0 and Beyond 20/20 Distributor for Publisher's Edition 6.0

Beyond 20/20 is planning a commercial release of Toolkit version 6.0 in January 2002. Following are the new features of this version:

Event Handler for Calculate in the Table Object - Toolkit now supports implementation of an event handler. When performing calculations on a table, the event handler can indicate the status of the calculation. The event handler can also be used to cancel a calculate operation.

New Method - GetData to the Table Object - Speeds up the data retrieval from the Table. Now easily retrieve data from a block or cell level.

Added Error Handling to All Objects - Applications created with the Toolkit's new error handling will benefit from more descriptive error messaging.

Beyond 20/20 is planning a release of a completely revised version of the Beyond 20/20 Distributor in January 2002. The Beyond 20/20 Distributor is a software package used to prepare your data for distribution inside or outside of your organization, and is to be used by those who have purchased a distribution license. The Distributor lets you create a distribution package (a set of installation disks, an installable director, or a CD-ROM), containing Beyond 20/20 tables and extracts. Those who receive the package can view these tables and extracts without the need for prior installation of the Beyond 20/20 Browser.

The Distributor's new wizard approach allows you to quickly and easily package a Beyond 20/20 Browser and data for dissemination.

In the newest Distributor, you can append a supplementary B2020.ini file in order to:

  • Redirect the Beyond 20/20 homepage settings found within the Browser summary windows to your homepage.
  • Add tools for the customizable Tools menu found in the Browser.
  • Customize complex links within summaries.

The Beyond 20/20 Distributor for Publisher's Edition 6.0 also allows you to choose if you would like an icon to appear in the start menu and if so, what the program should be named.

New Beyond 20/20 FAQ Section on the Web

Beyond 20/20 has created an FAQ section on the Beyond 20/20 Web site. Beyond 20/20 clients who have maintenance will have access to this information. Every customer with maintenance will receive a user name and password to access this section over the course of January 2002.

The FAQ section contains information on most of the support calls Beyond 20/20 has received. It will be regularly updated. The FAQ section will have information on many of Beyond 20/20's products, Web Data Server, Perspective, Publisher's Edition and Toolkit.

The FAQ section can be found on Beyond 20/20's Web site under the Support section on January 15th, 2002. Your user name and password will allow you to access the FAQ section as well as the Service Packs Download section.

We have included a Feedback section that will allow us to better answer our clients' needs. In this section clients are able to submit their questions if they were not able to find the answers they were looking for. Some of these issues will then be added to the FAQ section.

The conferencing technology we are using is so feature-rich that we can even pass control of the session to you; then you can explain your requirements more easily by showing us presentations or demonstrating software running on your computer.

We are convinced that our clients will enjoy using the Genesys Web conferencing software product, because it is so intuitive and easy to use. For an online product demonstration, please e-mail inquiries@beyond2020.com or call (613) 563-3993.
