Vermont Crime Information Center Deploys First-in-the-Nation Crime Report Using Beyond 20/20 Vista.
Ottawa, Canada, Oct 4, 2005 – Beyond 20/20 announces today that the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) has released their annual crime report in an innovative new format called Vermont Crime On-Line. The service – which is based on Beyond 20/20 Vista – is the first web-based crime report in the nation that provides information about criminal incidents at local, county and state levels in an interactive setting that complies with the FBI’s incident-based reporting standard NIBRS.
VCIC has a mandate to collect, edit, and analyze reported crime data across the state. In the past, static tables based on the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program were published in the annual Vermont Crime Report. With Vermont Crime On-Line, interested parties can now view the full complement of NIBRS data elements using standard reports or by creating their own custom reports on-line.
“The new format permits ad-hoc analysis on-the-fly, a capability that was previously unavailable with static reporting” said Max Schlueter, Director of the Vermont Crime Information Center. “With Beyond 20/20 Vista, users can manipulate data and quickly zero in on items of interest.”
Beyond 20/20 ad-hoc analysis and reporting capabilities are also being used by multiple police departments statewide to access information on crime trends and rates at local, county and state levels. Law enforcement officials are able to use the rich data source to analyze crime patterns and enhance crime prevention.
“For the first time, data about victims, offenders and their relationships is available in a dynamic format that facilitates in-depth analysis” said Beyond 20/20 CEO Clarke Bruce. “The resulting information is fundamental in identifying crime patterns and deploying policing resources.”
