Beyond 20/20 signs on another national statistics office: Luxembourg to disseminate census data with Beyond 20/20

In a competitive bid, Beyond 20/20 beat out Australia’s Space Time Research, Web Technologies of France, and Luxembourg’s own AREANE II.

OTTAWA – April 14, 2004 – Beyond 20/20, a developer of software solutions for data analysis and visualization, today announced a significant sale to STATEC, Luxembourg’s national statistical institute. This marks the 13th country to disseminate its data on a national level using Beyond 20/20’s software, in addition to the many regional government agencies around the world that use the software for similar purposes.

“With many of the national stats agencies in Europe signing on, plus a recent sweep of the U.K.’s top stats agencies (the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics, StatsWales, and Scottish Enterprise), this contract is really going to help us solidify our success in the European market,” describes Howard Nadler, president of Beyond 20/20 Inc. “With so many public Web sites using our WDS software, the agencies that have not yet considered us now have bona fide examples which demonstrate the benefits our software offers organizations similar to their own.”

STATEC has purchased the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server (WDS) and the Beyond 20/20 Data Connection Wizard to publish Luxembourg’s statistical, economical, and social data online. This Web solution enables STATEC to serve the general public while providing the tools that enable data users to manipulate the data, create charts, view it on maps, and save the data online, with an option to download it to their desktops. Its audience is not only national, but as a member of the European Union STATEC is obligated to disseminate its data to the European public as well. Beyond 20/20 enables them to reach this goal.

Currently, Luxembourg displays its data in HTML tables on its Web site, with no dynamic tools available to manipulate the data. The data can also be viewed in MS Excel - also a static table format – and can be downloaded to the desktop. “We chose WDS because it will enable us to display multi-dimensional tables on the Web,” said Laurent Maretti, head of the Technology Unit for STATEC. “With the software, our data users can extract meaningful information from the data, which means we will be adding more value to the services we provide them than in the past.”

Beyond 20/20’s solution will be fully integrated with STATEC’s Content Management System. The implementation is expected to be complete and available on the Web in mid-2004.
