Statistics New Zealand Releases Web Site for 2001 Census Data, Extending Contract with Beyond 20/20
Ottawa, Canada - July 8, 2002 - Beyond 20/20 is pleased to announce the release of Table Builder - 2001 Census by Statistics New Zealand. Powered by the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server, Table Builder - 2001 Census is a new development in web-based data delivery. It allows users to quickly and easily access a wide variety of data from New Zealand's 2001 Census of Population and Dwellings. It has also allowed Statistics New Zealand to make this data available for free.
Table Builder - 2001 Census uses Beyond 20/20's software for dissemination of data over the Internet. Statistics New Zealand chose the product because it enabled the placement of census data on the Internet, allowing users to manipulate, analyze and visualize the data by creating multi-dimensional tables and charts. Users can extract a variety of numerical information, from specific data points to large tables. Moreover, they have the option of downloading it to their desktop in MS Excel, Comma-Delimited ASCII format or Beyond 20/20 desktop format for further analysis.
"Since releasing the first census data in Beyond 20/20 in late May," said Steve Ramsey, marketing coordinator for Statistics New Zealand, "we have received a significant amount of feedback from clients who are overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the product and the way it allows them to access the data they want when they need it."
Data users have been so pleased with the technology, that Statistics New Zealand has decided to extend its contract with Beyond 20/20. Table Builder - 2001 Census will now disseminate almost all of New Zealand's Census data using Beyond 20/20's Web software. The decision was also influenced by Statistics New Zealand's need for a technology that is easy to use, both from the perspective of the data user and for their own staff, who are building the tables and maintaining the service. Approximately 300 large base tables of data, created by Statistics New Zealand in Beyond 20/20 format are being progressively placed on the site for users to access. This has replaced the need for Statistics New Zealand to disseminate the 2001 census on CD-ROM products.
"Beyond 20/20 is pleased with the constructive working relationship that has been established with New Zealand's statistics department," said Jean Carr, vice-president of sales at Beyond 20/20 Inc. "We consider them to be very forward-looking with a keen understanding of end-user requirements and we are delighted that they have selected our software."
