Catalonia, a region rich in culture and language, will use Beyond 20/20 to analyze its vibrant population
“Our software is becoming as diverse as the countries we sell it to.”
OTTAWA - Feb. 11, 2004 - Beyond 20/20, a leading developer of software for data dissemination, analysis and visualization, announced the sale of its Web solution to the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (IDESCAT), Spain’s second largest autonomous region, to disseminate its census and economic data. For this contract, the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server (WDS) will be translated into yet another language, Catalan. Users can also easily jump to Spanish or English while using the software through the Internet to access regional data.
“Our software is becoming as diverse as the countries we sell it to,” said Howard Nadler, Beyond 20/20’s president. “A recent stream of incoming contracts like this one has required us to customize the software to accommodate the wide range of languages native to each country.” Beyond 20/20’s Web software was recently translated to Welsh for the National Assembly for Wales in the U.K., to Italian for the Swiss Central Statistical Office and is currently being translated to Irish Gaelic for the Central Statistical Office of Ireland. The standard languages offered in Beyond 20/20’s Web software are Spanish, German, French and English.
“Beyond 20/20 has worked with many different census and data agencies internationally,” said Jordi Oliveres i Prats, the director of the Statistical Institute of Catalonia, “it is that kind of experience, working in different languages and accommodating a variety of cultures, that we needed for this project.”
The Institute currently utilizes the Internet to place official statistics within reach of everyone. Its Web site allows users to find basic information on each municipality and county of Catalonia and its economic and social indicators. However, WDS will give the Institute’s end-users the tools to understand the data. End-users will be able to create charts on the fly, or manipulate the data to create new personal views by sorting, calculating or rearranging it with easy drag and drop features.
It is expected that the translation of the software will be complete and the data will be available in WDS online at www.idescat.net in the next few months.
