Bolivia's National Statistics Agency Chooses Beyond 20/20

Ottawa, Canada - July 11, 2002 - Beyond 20/20 is pleased to announce that Bolivia's national statistics agency, Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), has purchased a corporate license for Beyond 20/20's software products. This license marks Beyond 20/20's first client in South America, and adds INE to its growing customer list of national statistics agencies around the globe.

"By using Beyond 20/20 products, our productivity grows exponentially due to the power of the toolset, its ease of use and speed of execution," said Luis Pereira Stambuck, Director Ejecutivo of INE (Chief Statistician of Bolivia) He underlined the fact that INE is now able to significantly shorten the data dissemination cycle, while covering the diverse data needs of end users."

The contract includes a full range of Beyond 20/20 products, for both internal and external data handling and dissemination. INE has purchased a license to install more than 450 Beyond 20/20 Professional Browsers - enough for every desktop in the organization. For external Web dissemination, INE has chosen the latest version of the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server and selected the Beyond 20/20 Publisher's Edition and Toolkit for its development tools. Future projects include the dissemination of trade data via the Web.

The Inter-American Development Bank provided financing for the entire project to INE, as part of the Support for Social Action program. INE is now equipped to lead the way in South America for advanced data visualization capabilities and dynamic dissemination of numeric data through the Internet. INE intends to use the Beyond 20/20 products for dissemination and analysis of Bolivia's 2001 census data. Its first major initiative is to put up a Web site using the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server (WDS). In addition, key indicators will be published using WDS. For this initiative, INE needed intuitive, easy-to-use software to make the data available to a wide range of subscribers. With WDS, users can easily access, manipulate and understand the census data without product training.

During the evaluation period, INE provided Beyond 20/20's consulting organization with data from Bolivia's 1992 Census. Past experience with statistical agencies, and the speed with which Beyond 20/20's tools can be used, enabled the consulting group to create a CD-ROM and a Web site within approximately 30 hours of receiving the data. Using the Beyond 20/20 Web Data Server, which has been available in Spanish for some time, the census data was easily prepared and made available on the Web.

INE joins such world-renown statistics agencies as the U.S. Bureau of the Census, Statistics Canada, France's INSEE, the U.K. Office for National Statistics and the federal statistics agencies of Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and New Zealand in deploying Beyond 20/20 software.
